In 2017 Blairgowrie will be hosting one of Scotland’s most prestigious Classic Car gatherings. The town’s Rotary Club is to take over the annual Classic Car Tour from Strathendrick Rotary Club, who have organised it for the past 10 years.
The 115-mile fundraising event, (Main Sponsor – Graham Environmental Services of Blairgowrie plus the supporting Award Sponsors) to be held on Drive It Day, Sunday 23rd April 2017, attracts dozens of Classic Cars of every age and type from throughout Scotland and further afield. It has raised thousands of pounds for charities over the past decade and Blairgowrie Rotarians are working hard to ensure that this great tradition will continue.
For its first year at Blairgowrie, entry numbers will be set at 65 cars. Successful applicants are asked to download the sponsorship form to seek sponsorship from friends and colleagues, while local and regional firms are being approached to fund aspects of the Classic Car Tour. The Sunday event finishes with a high tea and prize-giving, and all monies raised will go to two charities, Cancer Research UK and Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS).
Colin Stewart, Blairgowrie Rotary, who heads the organising committee, said, “We are putting a tremendous effort into this and have great hopes that we will continue the great Drive It Day tradition established by Strathendrick Rotary.
“The event will bring some of the finest Classic Cars in the UK to Blairgowrie and the colourful route through Perthshire will allow the driving teams to appreciate the great open roads and beautiful landscape of this area.”
Joe Norman, who has organised the Classic Car Tour for the past 10 years, said , “We are delighted that Blairgowrie Rotarians are taking over this long-standing event and are confident that they will maintain, and indeed build on, its successful record.”
